D.C.’s Historic Shiloh Baptist Church Going Virtual for Annual Rendering of ‘The Messiah’

The District’s historic Shiloh Baptist Church will go virtual next month for its senior choir’s 82nd performance of George Frideric Handel’s “The Messiah.”
The event, which takes place at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, features Angeli Ferrette, soprano; Ashlee N. Fields, mezzo-soprano; Darnell T. Roulhac, tenor; Christian I. Simmons, bass-baritone, the church said.
The senior choir, directed by Thomas Dixon Tyler, is accompanied by organist Evelyn Simpson-Curenton.
With this year’s presentation, the 157-year-old church in Northwest will have the only African American church choir that has performed “The Messiah” for 82 consecutive seasons.
The performance will also be augmented by a chamber ensemble and interpreted through American Sign Language.
