D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Wednesday that there will be random coronavirus testing for asymptomatic students when the school year begins on Aug. 30.
The testing will be done through saliva, WJLA-TV (Channel 7) reported. Parents or a guardian must approve the asymptomatic testing.
Christina Grant, acting superintendent of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, said schools can use OSSE’s testing process or get a sub-grant to develop their own testing regimen, WJLA reported.
Under asymptomatic testing guidelines, D.C. Public Schools will test at least 10% of its students.
