DC Black Pride 2025 will kick off with an opening reception on May 23 at 5 p.m. at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Northwest Washington.
The event, an official World Pride partner celebration sponsored by ViiV Healthcare, features comedian Anthony Oakes as host and viral music artist Iniko as the headline performer.
The Center for Black Equity announced “BLACK PRIDE IS: FREEDOM” as this year’s theme for the nation’s first and largest gathering of Black LGBTQ+ people.
“For decades, DC Black Pride has been at the forefront of the movement for Black LGBTQ+ liberation,” said Kenya Hutton, president and CEO of the Center for Black Equity. “Freedom is not just a privilege; it is a birthright. As we witness increasing attacks on our communities, we must reaffirm that our Pride is not just about celebration — it’s about resistance, advocacy, and unwavering solidarity.”
Iniko, known for the viral hit “The King’s Affirmation,” blends soul, alternative and Afrofuturism in their music.
Special guests will include TS Madison, media personality and trans rights advocate; Monroe Alise, actress and LGBTQ+ advocate; and Kerri Colby from “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
Musical performances will feature Lolita Leopard, Lyrical Mar and Bang Garçon. Comedians Heath Mahogany and Apple Brown Betty will perform sets, and poet Ink will deliver spoken word.
Attendees can enter raffles for tickets to Janelle Monáe & Grace Jones or Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour. The first 500 guests will receive a complimentary drink ticket, and weekend party passes will be distributed at the event.
