DC Greens Sets ‘Ground Opening’ for Ward 8 Urban Farm

DC Greens plans to launch The Well at Oxon Run with a “ground opening” in Congress Heights on July 14 from 11 a.m. to noon. The Well is bringing a community wellness space to the community that will foster urban farming and resources to fulfill the community.

DC Greens previously operated another urban farm on K Street but it closed in 2018 after a decade of operation. The new farm, on a site in Ward 8, reflects joint work by the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, The Green Scheme, Friends of Oxon Run, Soul of the City and fellow community members surrounding Oxon Run park.

Customers will have access to seasonal crops,  a pick-your-own flower garden, a farm products stand, and a large youth garden with outdoor classroom where cultivation and harvest information will be delivered.

The group’s announcement voices hope to nourish Ward 8, which struggles with food security due to a lack of nutritious resources. DC Greens officials also express a desire to spread throughout the rest of the District in a fight against hunger.

Those interested in attending can register via eventbrite here.
