Zoao Makumbi Sr., a psychologist for District of Columbia Public Schools, has died from coronavirus. He was 75.
Makumbi, a 25-year veteran of DCPS, died April 16 at a hospital in Prince George’s County after checking in just days prior.
He has been confirmed as the school system’s first employee to die of the disease.
“I am saddened to announce the passing of a member of our DCPS family, Dr. Zoao Makumbi Sr., beloved school psychologist at Houston Elementary School,” DCPS Chancellor Lewis Ferebee tweeted Wednesday. “Dr. Makumbi committed his entire career to ensuring a positive learning environment for every student.”
Makumbi is survived by his wife, five daughters, four stepchildren and eight grandchildren.
