Happy holidays! At this time of year, we usually talk about getting together with family and friends for the holidays, but for some of us, that prospect might actually make us feel more lonely. Sometimes the family we’re born into or raised in isn’t ideal, or maybe friends and family aren’t as close as you’d like. No matter what your situation is, we’re here for you. Come connect and celebrate with us at the Mayor’s Annual Senior Holiday Celebration. Whether this is your only holiday celebration or one of many, we want to see you!
You may have heard me say that we celebrate you every day here at DACL. While that’s true, the Mayor’s Annual Senior Holiday Celebration is the biggest event we do all year. And if you’ve never had the experience of entering a room with people lined up on either side of you cheering and thanking you for coming, I promise it’s unforgettable (and sometimes people enjoy it so much, they go through more than once!).
This year we’ll be at the Convention Center, so don’t forget to register by calling 202-727-8955 or going online at seniorholidayceleb.splashthat.com. Remember, we want to be able to dance and eat safely, so bring your vaccination card and your mask (we’ll have a mask there for you if you forget!). If you’re not fully vaccinated, please get the shot today — that’s the best way we’ll be able to keep you and your loved ones safe. Remember, boosters are recommended, and you should get your flu shot, too!
As we head into the New Year, we’re thinking about new things, and things we can make new again, which is why we’ve changed things up at our holiday celebration by hosting it at the Convention Center. We’re also going to do a new photo exhibition of seniors throughout DC, so be on the lookout for news about when and where you can join us for that. In every ward of the city, our nonprofit partners will be trying new things and new ways to connect with you, so let us know how it’s working. And if there’s something you’d like us to try, I’d love to hear from you! Email us at dacl.communications@dc.gov or call 202-724-5626.
See you at the Convention Center on Dec. 15!
