Thousands of vaccinated Americans may get the coronavirus, but most won’t get very ill, says the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“I think we all have to recognize that with 164 million people who are vaccinated, we should expect tens of thousands, perhaps, of breakthrough infections,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said Thursday, CNN reported. “Those breakthrough infections have mild illness. They are staying out of the hospital. They are not dying, and I think that that’s the most important thing to understand.”
Walensky stressed that vaccinated people who get infected can transmit it to others, CNN reported.
As of Friday, 70% of all American adults have gotten at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to CDC data.
