Thousands of vaccinated Americans may get the coronavirus, but most wonโ€™t get very ill, says the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
โ€œI think we all have to recognize that with 164 million people who are vaccinated, we should expect tens of thousands, perhaps, of breakthrough infections,โ€ CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said Thursday, CNN reported. โ€œThose breakthrough infections have mild illness. They are staying out of the hospital. They are not dying, and I think that thatโ€™s the most important thing to understand.โ€
Walensky stressed that vaccinated people who get infected can transmit it to others, CNN reported.
As of Friday, 70% of all American adults have gotten at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to CDC data.
