Fairmont Heights High School will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a formal gala banquet on Oct. 18 at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland, marking a milestone for the school that broke barriers in Prince George’s County education.
The evening event, running from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., represents a collaboration between current school faculty and staff and the Fairmont Heights High School Alumni Association. The celebration will welcome alumni, students, faculty, staff, community leaders and special guests to honor the school’s legacy of academic excellence.
“This will be the most significant and important Fairmont Heights High School reunion, and we strongly advise people to get tickets early,” said Joan Crowder, president of the Fairmont Heights High School Alumni Association.
Founded in 1950, Fairmont Heights High School served as a beacon of educational opportunity for African American students during the era of segregation. The school became the first high school in Prince George’s County to offer a complete 12th-grade education for African American students, playing a pivotal role in desegregating the county’s public school system.
Over seven decades, Fairmont’s graduates have excelled across professional fields, contributing to local, national and global communities.
The school is accepting congratulatory letters, citations and proclamations through Aug. 18. Camera-ready submissions should be emailed to fhhs75thanniversary@yahoo.com or mailed to Committee Chairman Gary C. Clark at 11205 Lake Victoria Lane, Bowie, Maryland 20720.
Tickets, donations and additional information about the gala are available at fhhsaainc.com, by emailing fhhs75thanniversary@yahoo.com or by contacting the committee chairperson.
