Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Wednesday that despite the recent surge of the coronavirus throughout the country, the situation can be reversed.
“In turning this around, we can do it,” Fauci said during a WTOP interview. “We can turn it around; we just need to act appropriately.”
The Johns Hopkins University tracker also reported Wednesday that the U.S. had 3,907,377 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 142,080 deaths.
Fauci complimented the work of companies seeking to create a vaccine for COVID-19, saying, “initial results look quite good.”
He said concerns about some companies talking about success in early trials should not worry anyone.
“Companies releasing data is just part of what companies do,” Fauci said. “Ultimately, the data will be transparent and will be public.”
