The Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorization Monday for an onsite coronavirus antigen test that gives results in 15 minutes.

The diagnostic test, developed by medical technology firm Becton, Dickinson and Company and meant for use by medical professionals, utilizes a device slightly larger than a cellphone to detect coronavirus antigens, CNN reported.

The test takes samples from a nose and throat swab and placed into a small cassette for use in the device for analysis, CNN reported.
