The Food and Drug Administration has approved people getting coronavirus booster shots of a different brand than their initial vaccine.

The FDA green-light will help people who received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to get a booster from the two-dose Moderna drug, as an example, Axios reported.

Moderna boosters may be given six months after completing the two-dose series while J&J boosters may be given two months after inoculation, the FDA said in a statement, Axios reported.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported only 4.6% of the U.S. population got a booster shot but 12% of Americans 65 and older have received a booster.

A CDC panel will review the boosters and make its own recommendations.
