Louisiana Rep. Cedric Richmond has been tabbed for a senior post in President-elect Joe Biden’s White House staff.

Richmond, a former Congressional Black Caucus chair who served as a co-chair of Biden’s presidential campaign, will serve as a senior advisor and director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, USA Today reported.

The appointment is one of several announced Tuesday morning by Biden, who has proceeded with assembling his staff despite President Trump refusing to accept Biden’s apparent victory in this month’s election.

Richmond, who has represented Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District in the House since 2011, said Tuesday he plans to resign from his congressional seat before Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.
