Girado Smith, president and CEO of Educational Systems Federal Credit Union, was inducted into the African American Credit Union Coalition’s Hall of Fame on March 4 during the organization’s Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.

“It is truly an honor to be inducted into the AACUC’s Hall of Fame,” Smith said. “This recognition is not just a reflection of my efforts but also the incredible team I’ve had the privilege of working with during the past 18 years.”

Smith previously served as chief financial officer for over 18 years before becoming president and CEO. In his leadership role, he has guided the credit union’s financial operations and strategic direction while focusing on serving the education community.

He has championed a culture of teamwork and inclusion within the industry and partnered with the AACUC to establish the Rosemary Brinkley C-Level Leadership Development Program.

Smith was one of five credit union leaders inducted into the Hall of Fame.

In December, Educational Systems FCU merged with Howard University Employees Federal Credit Union, expanding financial services for Howard University employees, students, alumni and family members, as well as Howard University Hospital staff.

The Washington Business Journal ranked Educational Systems FCU as the 12th-largest credit union in the greater Washington area in April.
