Global COVID Cases Drop 14%: WHO

The number of global coronavirus cases dropped 14% in the past week, the World Health Organization reported Tuesday.

Roughly 4.1 million new cases were logged worldwide in the week ending May 23, along with 84,000 virus-related deaths, CNN reported, citing WHO data.

The death toll was a 2% drop from the previous week.

The largest decline in new infections and death occurred in the European region, while India reported the most new cases with about 1.8 million, CNN reported.

As of Wednesday, roughly 168 million coronavirus cases and 3.5 million virus-related deaths have been reported globally, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker. The U.S. leads the world in both categories with 33.2 million cases and 591,000 deaths.
