Desiree Williams, an assistant professor of physical therapy and director of the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute at Hampton University in Virginia, is one of 18 contestants in the 35th edition of the hit CBS television series “Survivor.”

The contestants, who competed on the island of Fiji in the South Pacific, were grouped into three tribes of six contestants as Heroes, Healers and Hustlers. Williams, a practicing physical therapist, competed as a member of the Healers tribe.

In 2016, Williams won the Miss Virginia beauty pageant and finished in the Top 10 at the Miss USA pageant.

Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education and a doctorate in physical therapy from Hampton University.
