Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott is ushering in a new era of leadership and change with a recalibrated team set to be led by Calvin A. Young III, who was selected to serve as his chief of staff.
Scott and Young have known each other for years. The two forged a bond as young high school students and have continued to build upon their professional relationship through political convergence.
“To continue building on the historic progress we’ve made so far, we’re building the most hardworking and dedicated team this city has ever seen. And there is no one I trust more to lead that team than Calvin,” Scott said. “I’ve known Calvin since our days running high school track and field against each other. His intelligence has taken him everywhere — from the engineering bench to the corporate boardroom, from Harvard to the White House.”
He emphasized Young’s gifts.
“But above all else, Calvin has always been a proud son of Baltimore,” the mayor said. “He will lead this office and this city with excellence, talent, and grit.”
Young’s new managerial role comes after a yearlong tenure as senior adviser to the mayor and his former position as the re-election campaign treasurer from 2023 to 2024.

He is locally connected and infused with the spirit of the Charm City as a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.
Beyond his rearing in Baltimore, Young furthered his education at New York University and Harvard Business School.
“Serving as Mayor Scott’s chief of staff is the honor of a lifetime,” Young told The Informer. “Throughout my career, I have always sought to advance real change for people. Now, I am eager and enthusiastic to bring my dedication home.”
Young praised Scott for his past leadership and said he is confident about the possibilities for future growth.
“With falling crime rates, historic investments in our youth, and a growing population, Baltimore is in a renaissance thanks to the work of Brandon Scott,” he said. “With this administrative team, what is possible for Baltimore is endless.”
Young Uses Past Experiences to Maximize ‘Momentous Moment for Baltimore City’
In previous years, Young has worked at Camden Partners, Harbor Bankshares Corporation, and is the co-founder of Green Street Impact Partners, a private equity firm providing growth capital to companies in the education sector.
He also co-chaired the Greater Baltimore Committee’s (GBC) 10 Year Regional Strategy Steering Committee.
“Before joining the mayor’s team, Calvin served a key role in helping shape GBC’s 10-Year Economic Opportunity Plan and galvanizing regional partners to advance industry and investment priorities,” said Mark Anthony Thomas, president and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Community. “Calvin has been a valuable resource and thought partner in GBC’s recent initiatives to advance economic growth, startup creation, and business attraction.”

Thomas is excited to see what Young has in store in this new leadership role.
“He will be a tremendous resource to this administration,” said Thomas, “and a valuable ally to maximizing this momentous moment for Baltimore City and the region overall.”
Among many historic positions, Young is fondly known for his stint on the Business Advisory Committee for the Comptroller of Maryland, which he will work alongside closely in his new role as chief of staff.
“I am confident that Calvin’s technical and financial expertise will be an asset in this strategic role,” said Baltimore City Comptroller Bill Henry. “My team and I are looking forward to collaborating with him to tackle all of the challenges that lie ahead.”

He brings a lot to the table. I am excited to see his knowledge and skills employed for the benefit of Baltimore City.
