At The Washington Informer, we believe that people—our community—will always be essential to reporting and sharing the news. Still, like many industries, we’ve started exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) might help us do our jobs better.
Whether it’s large language models like GPT, diffusion models like DALL·E, or transcription tools like Otter.ai, we’re looking at how AI can support our mission: keeping our community informed with the news that matters most.
As we begin this work, we need your support. We’re committed to learning about AI—and using it ethically and transparently. That includes making sure we earn and maintain your trust.
We have questions, too—about how AI should be used, where it adds value, and what its future in journalism should look like. That’s why we’re asking for your input.
We invite you to take a short survey titled “How should newsrooms use AI?” created in collaboration with two respected national media organizations: Local Media Association/Local Media Foundation and Trusting News.
Your responses—anonymous if you choose—will help shape how we approach AI in our newsroom. The survey is open from Aug. 3 to Aug. 16. We’ll also share anonymized findings and continue reporting on how AI is being used in newsrooms and in our community.
