Howard University alumnus Nicholas Perkins has reportedly acquired the nationwide Fuddruckers restaurant chain from Lubyโ€™s Inc. for $18.5 million.

Perkinsโ€™ Black Titan Franchise Systems LLC reached a deal with Lubyโ€™s earlier this month to take over ownership of the Fuddruckers brand from Lubyโ€™s, a Houston-based reported cafeteria chain that last year began liquidating its assets and dissolving the company.

Perkins had already been one of Fuddruckersโ€™ largest franchisees, with 13 locations ran by his affiliate companies, according to a press release announcing the transaction.

โ€œWeโ€™re excited to be purchasing Fuddruckers and look forward to working with Fuddruckersโ€™ many dedicated, highly capable franchisees to further build this brand,โ€ Perkins said. โ€œAs a Fuddruckers franchisee, I have a vested interest in ensuring that all Fuddruckers franchisees have the resources, infrastructure, and operational and marketing support they need to maximize their return on investment. This strategic alignment, when combined with the fact that we sell the โ€˜Worldโ€™s Greatest Hamburgersโ€™โ„ข, will ensure the long-term success of the brand and our franchisees.โ€

Perkins, who earned his MBA from Howard, received his bachelorโ€™s in business administration and management from Fayetteville State University in North Carolina.
