Howard U. Student, Faculty Member Test Positive for Coronavirus

A Howard University faculty member and student have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

In making the announcement Thursday, the university confirmed that while both individuals are in self-isolation per guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the student tested positive for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, after returning to their home state.

The university is now working with health departments to notify students, faculty and staff members who may have been in contact with them.

Meanwhile, Howard will continue to vacate residence halls while preparing for all classes to transition by March 23 to online and remote courses.

The university announced last week that it has canceled the spring 2020 commencement ceremony.
