Comedian and actor Joe Torry lashed out Monday against allegations that he showed up in court last week in support of beleaguered entertainment legend Bill Cosby after receiving a hefty check in exchange.
Torry, who walked arm in arm with Cosby into the Pennsylvania courthouse on June 8 for Cosbyโs sexual assault trial, maintains that he was not paid to be a supporter
โI never asked Bill for a check,โ Torry said Monday on โThe Tom Joyner Morning Show.โ โAinโt never got a check from Bill.โ
Torry, a member of the same fraternity as Cosby, told Joyner, โI donโt know what youโre thinking about, that Iโm doing this for profit. I know people want to hear, โOh thatโs why Joe Torry [was] there Thursday. Thereโs got to be a reason. Thereโs got to be a check.โ No, thatโs my frat brother, thatโs a black man that has done a lot for black America.โ
