The family of late filmmaker John Singleton has launched a private investigation of his death.

The โ€œBoyz N the Hoodโ€ director died after suffering a stroke, but his family said it still has unanswered questions, including what happened in the hours before he checked himself into the hospital.

The family said it doesnโ€™t know how Singleton got to the hospital or who he was with when he arrived. TMZ reported that there are no records of him taking a ride-hailing service to the hospital and none of his friends took him there. The staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles reportedly told his family that he came in alone.

Singleton, 51, was hospitalized on April 17 after returning from a trip to Costa Rica and experiencing weakness in his leg. He then fell into a coma and died on April 29.
