The Washington Wizards will honor franchise icon John Wall on Jan. 29 when they host the Milwaukee Bucks at Capital One Arena.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will air on Amazon Prime Video. The first 15,000 fans will receive a John Wall bobblehead.
Wall, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft, led the Wizards to three playoff appearances during his tenure and remains the franchise leader in assists (5,282) and steals (976). The five-time All-Star earned All-Rookie First Team honors in 2010-11, made the All-Defensive Second Team in 2014-15 and was named All-NBA Third Team in 2016-17. He retired in August and now works as a studio analyst for Monumental Sports Network and Amazon Prime Video.
Off the court, Wall received the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his extensive charity work in the Washington area. He supported back-to-school drives and holiday initiatives, made Make-A-Wish visits and adopted Whittier and Ketcham elementary schools. Wall donated $400,000 to Bright Beginnings Inc., supported the Boys & Girls Club of America and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and launched “202 Assist,” which raised more than $500,000 for rent relief in Ward 8.
The celebration begins Jan. 27 with a “Wall of Fame” pop-up near Section 118, featuring exclusive merchandise and the scorer’s table from Wall’s iconic buzzer-beater against the Boston Celtics in the 2016 playoffs. In-game tributes, themed videos and a halftime ceremony will follow on game night. Team Chairman Ted Leonsis and CEO Zach Leonsis will present a donation to the John Wall Family Foundation during the ceremony.
