An acclaimed motivational speaker who uses his life experiences to keep youth on the right side of the law has been appointed acting director of the D.C. Mayor’s Office of Returning Citizens Affairs.
Lamont Carey, a native Washingtonian and Ward 5 resident, joins Mayor Muriel Bowser’s administration after serving as CEO of the nonprofit Contact Visits, where he developed curriculums to support new program designs and creation of onsite entrepreneurial and creative arts programs.
Carey, himself a former offender, has also facilitated sessions for returning citizens that have included life skills training, decision making, and anger management programs. He has faced and overcome similar challenges facing the returning citizen community, including rebuilding relationships with family, identifying housing, obtaining employment, and implementing his plans for success.
Carey, who completed coursework in Business Management at the University of the District of Columbia and Hagerstown Community College, also completed coursework at Prince George’s Community College.
