Though Mariah Carey says her American Idol days are far behind her, she recently spoke about how working on the reality singing competition was like “hell.”

Carey, who sat on the judges panel for one season with Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, told Hot 97 on Tuesday that the experience was like “going to work every day in hell with Satan.”

The Art of Letting Go singer, who famously feuded with Minaj throughout the season, laughs and covers her face before continuing.

“Nah, I’m just playing. It didn’t affect me that much — I was just disappointed,” she says.
