Mary J. Blige has been nominated for two Oscars for her turn in the Netflix film โ€œMudboundโ€ and a song on the soundtrack, and the renowned R&B singer said she could hardly contain her emotions upon receiving the news Tuesday when the nominations were announced.

โ€œMudboundโ€ details the lives of two families in the Jim Crow South. Blige plays Florence Jackson, a sharecropperโ€™s wife who becomes an unlikely friend and ally to the landownerโ€™s wife, played by Carey Mulligan.

Blige, 47, was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, as well as Best Original Song for โ€œRiver Bound,โ€ her contribution to the filmโ€™s soundtrack. She is first person ever nominated for an acting performance and an original song in the same year.

โ€œThis is a new one, the actress nominee, and this is beautiful,โ€ the singer said in a statement. โ€œThis is really special. So is the song because itโ€™s something that I love to do. I love to sing. And thatโ€™s something Iโ€™ve been doing for a very long time thatโ€™s special to me, and the Oscars have recognized it. So, itโ€™s all special.โ€
