Mary J. Blige has been nominated for two Oscars for her turn in the Netflix film “Mudbound” and a song on the soundtrack, and the renowned R&B singer said she could hardly contain her emotions upon receiving the news Tuesday when the nominations were announced.

“Mudbound” details the lives of two families in the Jim Crow South. Blige plays Florence Jackson, a sharecropper’s wife who becomes an unlikely friend and ally to the landowner’s wife, played by Carey Mulligan.

Blige, 47, was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, as well as Best Original Song for “River Bound,” her contribution to the film’s soundtrack. She is first person ever nominated for an acting performance and an original song in the same year.

“This is a new one, the actress nominee, and this is beautiful,” the singer said in a statement. “This is really special. So is the song because it’s something that I love to do. I love to sing. And that’s something I’ve been doing for a very long time that’s special to me, and the Oscars have recognized it. So, it’s all special.”
