Maryland’s coronavirus-related hospitalizations dropped Wednesday by 21 to 125, and the state’s positivity rate fell to 0.61% — signs of a gradual return to normalcy amid the waning pandemic.

Of the 125 hospitalizations, just 37 are in intensive care, the lowest recorded number since the height of the pandemic, according to the governor’s office.

The state health department reported 59 new coronavirus cases and seven virus-related deaths over a 24-hour period. Maryland’s COVID death toll now stands at 9,505.

So far, roughly 73% of all Maryland adults have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, with 3.27 million residents now fully immunized, according to health department data.
