Maryland Surpasses 30K Confirmed Coronavirus Cases

Maryland now has more than 30,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, state health care officials reported Friday.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, the state has 30,485 confirmed cases and 1,453 deaths from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Over the past 24 hours 1,111 new cases were reported, while hospitalizations — a key metric as state officials discuss easing shelter-in-place and social distancing measures — only decreased slightly.

A breakdown by county, according to the state health department:

Anne Arundel: 2,290
Frederick: 1,182
Howard: 1,138
Charles: 716
Harford: 572
Wicomico: 553
Carroll: 542
Washington: 259
Cecil: 211
St. Mary’s: 207
Calvert: 191
Allegany: 143
Caroline: 107
Kent: 98
Worcester: 98
Dorchester: 86
Queen Anne’s: 70
Talbot: 55
Cecil: 211
