Maryland now has more than 30,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, state health care officials reported Friday.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, the state has 30,485 confirmed cases and 1,453 deaths from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Over the past 24 hours 1,111 new cases were reported, while hospitalizations — a key metric as state officials discuss easing shelter-in-place and social distancing measures — only decreased slightly.
