Maryland Surpasses 500K COVID Booster Shots

Maryland now has administered 500,000 coronavirus booster shots, Gov. Larry Hogan announced this week.

The state leads the region and ranks in the top 10 in the nation in boosters for seniors, Hogan’s office said in a statement Monday, citing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Maryland has mobilized a robust network of vaccination providers, including pharmacies, primary care providers, mobile clinics, community health centers and local health department, and we have both the supply and the capacity to provide a booster shot to anyone who needs one,” Hogan said. “If you are eligible — especially if you are immunocompromised or have comorbidities — you should strongly consider getting a COVID-19 booster shot immediately for additional protection from this virus.”

The governor’s office said 520,948 coronavirus booster shots have been administered as of Monday.

So far, the state has reported approximately 8.7 million vaccinations, with 98.6% of residents 65 and older and 86.9% of those 18 and older having received at least one dose of a vaccine.
