Maryland on Monday reported fewer than 100 new coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day.

The state health department reported 60 new cases, raising the total number to 461,325. Two virus-related deaths were reported, putting the toll at 9,468.

The number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations reported Monday was 187, up four from the day before but marking the third straight day Maryland has reported fewer than 200 hospitalizations — a mark that hadn’t previously been reached since March 28, 2020.

The numbers of daily cases and hospitalization rates are at the lowest points since the outset of the pandemic early last year, dropping rapidly as more residents are vaccinated against the virus.

As of Monday, roughly 72% of the state’s adult population have received at least one dose of a vaccine, and 3.2 million residents are now fully vaccinated, according to a state-run tracker.
