Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich says county employees must get a coronavirus vaccination by Sept. 18 or be subject to weekly testing.
Elrich, speaking Wednesday during his weekly briefing, issued his order ahead of the first day of school in the county on Monday, WTTG-TV (Channel 5) reported.
Teachers must inform the Montgomery County Public Schools system of their vaccination status by Friday and provide verification by the end of the month, WTTG reported.
Elrich expressed his desire for more businesses to follow suit in requiring either proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test.
As of Thursday, roughly 679,000 county residents, or 65% of the total population, are fully vaccinated, according to a county-ran online dashboard.
