Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said his son got a โ€œvery mildโ€ case of COVID-19 while on a recent trip to the U.S.

Elrichโ€™s son fell ill in the weeks after returning to his home in Medellin, Colombia, from visiting family between late August and early September, the county executive told WTOP.

Elrich said his son, who is fully vaccinated, texted him that he tested positive for the disease.

โ€œHe had a very mild case,โ€ Elrich said, WTOP reported Thursday. โ€œHe was uncomfortable, didnโ€™t have much energy and was pretty lethargic for about five days and returned to normal.โ€

Elrich attributed his sonโ€™s rapid recovery to his being vaccinated. He also said he didnโ€™t have to get tested himself in connection to his sonโ€™s breakthrough case, WTOP reported.
