The Montgomery County History Conference will be held Nov. 8 at Montgomery College’s Germantown Campus in the Bioscience Education Center.
The conference will feature a keynote address, 10 breakout sessions, a boxed lunch, a panel discussion and a reception. The keynote session, “Montgomery Montage: A 250-Year Tapestry of Time, People and Place,” will examine the transformations that have shaped the county.

Breakout sessions will cover student and citizen activism during the Vietnam era, the history of the Gaithers and Howards of Maryland, Alexander Hanson and the right to protest, the creation of the county’s moderately priced dwelling unit program, elected women of color, the fair housing movement, the county’s connection to the conservation movement, the early slave trade, the design and intent of the Montgomery County Detention Center and the ceding of Georgetown to Washington, D.C.
The conference will conclude with “Montgomery County at 250: Looking Back to Move Forward,” a panel discussion on the county’s future.
