The National Association of Real Estate Brokers will host its second annual National Building Black Wealth Day on April 12 with events in more than 100 cities nationwide.
The initiative will offer seminars and one-on-one sessions to help Black Americans pursue homeownership, property investment and business opportunities. Virtual sessions will be available to a national audience.
“We are bringing together families, lenders, attorneys and real estate professionals to discuss and implement strategies that increase Black homeownership and foster wealth-building within Black communities,” said NAREB President Courtney Johnson Rose.
Several major organizations are partnering in the effort, including the African American Mayors Association, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Church of God in Christ, the National Baptist Convention, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, National Bar Association, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
NAREB’s 2024 State of Housing in Black America report found that more than 2 million mortgage-ready Black Americans have the income and credit to buy homes but haven’t yet done so. Additionally, 1.75 million Black millennials earn over $100,000 annually and could become homeowners.
Freddie Mac research shows 2 million Black individuals aged 45 or younger are near mortgage-ready, while another 3.4 million are potentially mortgage-ready.
“Our tour aims to reach these Black consumers,” Rose said. “We are providing them with data and information on why they should consider homeownership.”
The event will offer workshops on homebuying, real estate investing, careers in real estate, down payment assistance, free health screenings and housing counseling.
Black Wealth Day follows NAREB’s Mid-Winter Conference held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, last month. The conference, themed “Navigating New Horizons,” provided real estate professionals with tools to succeed in the evolving industry.
Registration for in-person events in cities including St. Louis is available at https://narebblackwealthtour.com/. Virtual sessions have limited availability.
