Amazon announced Thursday almost 20,000 of its employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.
However, the online retail giant said on its corporate blog that the infection rate of its employees was well below that seen of the general U.S. population, The Associated Press reported.
Amazon said it is conducting thousands of tests a day, which it says will increase to 50,000 tests a day across 650 sites by November. The analysis emerges as Amazon, along with other retailers and meatpacking plants, have been under increasing pressure by workers and labor-backed groups to reveal COVID-19 statistics in the workplace, AP reported.
As of Friday, the U.S. has roughly 7.2 million coronavirus cases and 208,000 deaths, both tops globally, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
