A mutation of the novel coronavirus that has ravaged the globe makes it more infectious, a new study found.

However, the new version, while more virulent, doesn’t seem to be any more potent than earlier forms of the virus, CNN reported.

“It is now the dominant form infecting people,” said Erica Ollman Saphire of the La Jolla Institute for Immunology and the Coronavirus Immunotherapy Consortium, who was on the international team of researchers that worked on the study. “This is now the virus.”
