NFL Wants $16.6 Million from M.I.A. Over Super Bowl Halftime Show Stunt

More than two years after M.I.A. upstaged Madonna with the flip of her middle finger during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show, the NFL says it wants $16.6 million in restitution from the Sri Lanka-born rapper.

Last year, it was revealed the NFL was seeking $1.5 million and an apology from M.I.A. for alleged breach of contract and damaging the league’s “wholesome reputation.” Now it wants an additional $15.1 million, which it claims is the advertising value of the two-minute performance, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
