Northern Virginia reported only 79 new coronavirus cases Monday, the lowest in the region since March, according to state health department statistics.

Throughout the commonwealth, there are 354 new COVID-19 cases, according to the health department, InsideNoVa.com reported.

However, the sudden drop is likely influenced somewhat by the July Fourth holiday weekend, as presumably fewer people were inclined to get tested during that time.

The health department reported 5,762 test results in the state Monday, the smallest number in a nearly month, InsideNoVa.com reported.

The department recorded no new deaths. Northern Virginia has reported 959 coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic, more than half of the state’s total of 1,853.
