The Bronco was originally owned by Simpson’s former college teammate and ex-NFL player Al Cowlings. He was the one who drove the car during the police pursuit after Simpson forced him at gunpoint.
In 1995, months after the high-profile trial, Cowlings sold the car to three men from California for $200,000. The three originally wanted to sell the car and market it as Simpson’s but decided not to due to the sensitive issues surrounding it.
“Because the whole thing was so racially fueled at the time, they didn’t want the perception of profiting off murders and racism,” an insider close to the three men said.
