A White Fort Worth, Texas, police officer who fatally shot a Black woman Saturday in her own house has been charged with murder.
Aaron Dean, who joined the police force a year ago, fired a single shot through a window at Atatiana Jefferson, 28, as she babysat her 8-year-old nephew.
Dean went to Jefferson’s home after responding to a 2:23 a.m. call from a concerned neighbor who said Jefferson’s door was open.
“Aaron Dean was arrested by Fort Worth Police on Oct. 14. Dean has been charged with murder of Atatiana Jefferson. Dean is in the Tarrant County Jail,” the Fort Worth Police said on Twitter.
Dean’s resignation from the police department was announced Monday. He is being held on a $200,000 bond.
