The coronavirus pandemic in the United States doesnโt appear to be subsiding in the near future, a medical expert warned.
โI think this is more like a forest fire,โ Michael Osterholm, head of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, said Sunday on NBCโs โMeet the Press.โ โI think that wherever thereโs wood to burn, this fireโs going to burn, and right now we have a lot of susceptible people.
โRight now, I donโt see this slowing down through the summer or into the fall,โ Osterholm said. โI donโt think weโre going to see one, two and three waves. I think weโre going to just see one very, very difficult forest fire of cases.โ
The U.S. currently has roughly 2.3 million confirmed coronavirus cases, with more than 120,000 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
