Pepco contributed more than $3.1 million to nonprofits in D.C. and Maryland last year through a combination of grants and volunteer efforts.

The contributions are part of the companyโ€™s commitment to powering communities and being a good corporate citizen for communities where its employees live and work.

โ€œWe value the strong and important relationships weโ€™ve built and continue to cultivate with our communities across the District of Columbia and Maryland over the last 100-plus years,โ€ said Donna Cooper, Pepco region president. โ€œWhile we are known for our commitment to providing clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy service to our customers, we also see it as our duty and obligation to give back to the communities that we are a part of and that we are privileged to serve.โ€

Every charitable contribution from Pepco also comes with a dedicated pledge of volunteers. The companyโ€™s โ€œPowering Communitiesโ€ program helps connect employees with volunteer opportunities throughout Pepcoโ€™s service area and recognizes their efforts.

In 2018, more than 390 employees volunteered a combined total of more than 1,125 work days through the program, helping support nearly 200 unique organizations across Montgomery and Prince Georgeโ€™s Counties, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The top volunteers were honored March 11 at Pepcoโ€™s โ€œVolunteer Recognition Breakfastโ€ at Edison Place Gallery in D.C.

โ€œSeeing the outcomes of our continued contributions and volunteerism, with our outstanding nonprofit partners, is another reminder of our deep connection to our communities and the vested interest we have in their continued success,โ€ said Mellanie Lassiter, senior manager of corporate relations for Pepco Holdings. โ€œWe are pleased that our broad support is helping these impactful organizations achieve their missions in serving the communities where we live and work.โ€
