Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has warned his country’s residents that he will imprison anyone refusing to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Duterte issued his missive after hearing reports of low turnouts at vaccination sites in the capital city of Manila.
“You choose — vaccine or I will have you jailed,” Duterte said in a televised address Monday.
Getting vaccinated in the Philippines is voluntary, according to government health guidelines. The country has verified almost 1.4 million coronavirus cases and over 23,000 virus-related deaths since the onset of the pandemic, Axios reported.
