Prince George’s Co. Appoints Black Female Fire Chief

Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks recently announced the appointment of Tiffany Green, a county native, as interim chief of Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Service.

Green, who will be distinguished as the first Black woman to lead the fire department, assumes the helm in November when Benjamin Barksdale will retire after 35 years of service.

“Interim Fire Chief Green has over 24 years of combined volunteer and career fire service, and we are confident that the department will continue to excel under her leadership,” the county council said in a statement. “The Council recognizes the historical significance of her appointment as the first female fire chief, and we look forward to reviewing her submission as a part of the Council’s confirmation process.”

Green, who has been with the department for more than 20 years, said during the confirmation ceremony that the department will continue to be a “community-focused and performance-driven agency” that ensures the best service to the county’s citizens, residents and visitors.
