Members of the D.C. Public Schools community recently gathered in protest of the abrupt firing of longtime School Without Walls Principal Richard Trogisch.
Trogisch, who was fired one month before schools are to reopen for in-person instruction, is said to have been let go because he was against the DCPS reopening plan, WUSA-TV (Channel 9) reported.
“We have one simple message to say today, reinstate Principal Trogisch now,” a teacher with School Without Walls said earlier at a rally.
“Trust and transparency is what we want and we need,” the president of HSA at School Without Walls added.
Trogisch’s supporters said if DCPS officials fail to meet their demands for reinstatement, they will plan another course of action for more clarity on the situation.
In the meantime, DCPS released a statement saying Trogisch’s departure is due to an “enrollment anomaly” unrelated to any issues associated with school reopening, health or safety, WUSA reported.
DCPS also said that Instructional Superintendent Shawn Stover has been serving as interim principal for School Without Walls High School and School Without Walls at Francis Stevens.
