R. Kelly Charged with Bribery Connected to Aaliyah Marriage

Beleaguered music star R. Kelly has been charged with bribing an Illinois government employee in 1994 to obtain a fake ID to marry singer Aaliyah when she was just 15.

Brooklyn federal prosecutors allege Kelly, 52, used the fake ID that listed Aaliyah’s age as 18 to obtain a marriage license.

Kelly, whose real name is Robert Kelly, was 27 at the time. The license was dated Aug. 31, 1994, the day after Kelly allegedly paid the bribe.

The marriage was annulled shortly afterward.

Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001.

The latest charge has been added to a list of racketeering indictments Kelly faces in New York, alleging he sexually exploited and coerced underage females.
