Redskins Fall to Cowboys, Drop to 0-2

To lose to an archenemy is bad enough, but it’ll sting a bit more for the Washington Redskins after Sunday’s 27-23 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys because they dug their own grave with a costly turnover — and an old castaway put the nail in the coffin.

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins, who was largely uneven throughout the afternoon, threw an interception in the Cowboys’ end zone in the fourth quarter with the Redskins up 23-20. Instead of going up by 10 late, the Redskins watched as Dallas (1-1) launched an 80-yard scoring drive, capped by a four-yard go-ahead touchdown run by former Washington running back Alfred Morris.

The interception encapsulated Washington’s red-zone woes Sunday, with the offense coming away with just two scores in six trips.

Washington Redskins wide receiver hauled in a third-quarter TD reception, but it wasn’t enough as the Dallas Cowboys defeated Washington, 27-23, at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, on Sept. 18.

Cousins was 28-46 for 364 yards with one touchdown as well as the fourth-quarter interception. Running back Matt Jones rushed for 61 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown.

“We have to know where we are,” said Washington head coach Jay Gruden. “We’re 0-2 and we’re in last place. We have to get it turned around quick. The season will slip away from us if not. There’s a lot of football left so we have to keep grinding and go back to work.”

Washington goes on the road next week against the NFC East leading New York Giants on Sunday at 1 p.m.
