Rita Dove, the country’s poet laureate from 1993 to 1995, has been named poetry editor at The New York Times.
In her new role, Dove – an English professor at the University of Virginia — will select a poem from new or forthcoming collections to be published each Sunday in the New York Times Magazine.
Dove was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1987 and is the only poet to receive the National Humanities Medal and the National Medal of Arts.
A summa cum laude graduate of Miami University, Dove, who has published 10 collections of poetry, also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa.
