The majority of recent coronavirus outbreaks in D.C. can be traced to schools and day care centers, according to data released Monday by the city health department.

The department, which defines an outbreak as two or more cases at a location within a 14-day period, said 44.9% of outbreaks in the city between Aug. 1 and Nov. 26 were recorded at all schools and universities, while 13.8% were at day care facilities.

Universities and colleges had the largest number of outbreaks overall with 27.5%.

Restaurants and bars also accounted for 13.8%.

As of Tuesday, the city has 23,589 known coronavirus cases and 701 deaths, according to the health department.
