Several states are prepping partially reopen Friday or sometime next week amid the global coronavirus pandemic, ignoring warnings to remain on lockdown despite recent spikes in coronavirus-related deaths in the country.
Georgia, which has not seen a significant dip in deaths or total cases, will begin reopening Friday, followed later by Tennessee and South Carolina — all in accordance with the three-phase approach outlined last week by President Trump.
The reopenings are also in direct opposition to medical experts who believe it’s too early to take the measures aimed at boosting the economy.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, an infectious disease expert and member of Trump’s coronavirus task force, warned that lifting restrictions too early endangers lives and tightens the demand for medical supplies, already in critically short supply.
