A statue of civil rights pioneer Barbara Rose Johns was unveiled in the U.S. Capitol Emancipation Hall, replacing a former confederate leader’s statue, in recognition of her leadership in the 1951 student strike that helped lay the groundwork for the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision.
